txpool_inspect

txpool_inspect returns a human-readable text summary of every pending and queued transaction sitting in a Base node's transaction pool, organised by sender address and nonce. Each entry collapses to a short string showing the recipient, value, and gas, which makes it easy to scan the mempool by eye. Base is Coinbase's OP Stack optimistic rollup that settles to Ethereum and meters gas in ETH; transactions flow into the sequencer's pool before being ordered into the ~2-second blocks, and this method gives you a snapshot of that waiting set. Call it at https://base.therpc.io/YOUR_API_KEY on chain ID 8453 (hex 0x2105).

Use cases

• Debug a stuck Base transaction by locating it under its sender address and nonce in the summary, confirming whether it is pending (next to be included) or queued (blocked behind a nonce gap).
• Audit what is sitting in the Base mempool during a high-congestion incident — for example a surge of swaps on a popular consumer app — to see which senders and nonces are backed up.

Errors & troubleshooting

Common pitfalls

• txpool_inspect lives in the txpool namespace, which only Geth-compatible Base clients expose; on other implementations the call returns "method not found."
• The output is a text format built for humans, not machines. For programmatic access to full transaction objects use txpool_content instead of trying to parse these summary strings.
• During heavy Base mempool activity the response can grow very large. When you only need a quick gauge of backlog, reach for txpool_status, which returns lightweight pending/queued counts.
