txpool_status

txpool_status returns the count of pending and queued transactions in an OP Mainnet node's transaction pool — the OP Stack rollup that settles to Ethereum L1 and uses ETH for gas — as two hex-encoded integers under the pending and queued keys. It is the lightweight counterpart to txpool_inspect: instead of listing every transaction, it gives you just the totals, which makes it cheap to poll. Send the call to https://optimism.therpc.io/YOUR_API_KEY (chain ID 10, 0xa) to gauge mempool depth at a glance.

Use cases

• Monitor OP Mainnet mempool depth to detect congestion and tune the priority fee your application attaches to outgoing transactions.
• Feed a dashboard gauge that shows the current pending and queued backlog as a live measure of network load.

Errors & troubleshooting

Common pitfalls

• Part of the txpool namespace, served only by Geth-compatible clients (op-geth); other execution clients may return "method not found".
• The counts are instantaneous snapshots that change with every new block on OP Mainnet's ~2-second cadence, so do not cache them aggressively — re-poll when you need a current reading.
