eth_getStorageAt

eth_getStorageAt reads the raw 32-byte value held at a given storage slot of a contract on OP Mainnet, at whichever block you choose. Because OP Mainnet is EVM-equivalent — an OP Stack optimistic rollup (Bedrock) settling to Ethereum L1 with gas paid in ETH — the storage layout of a Velodrome or Synthetix contract follows the same Solidity slot rules as on L1. Send the request to https://optimism.therpc.io/YOUR_API_KEY (chain ID 10, 0xa). The response is the 32-byte slot value, hex-encoded and left-padded with zeros.

Use cases

• Read a proxy's implementation address straight from the EIP-1967 slot on OP Mainnet without needing the contract ABI.
• Inspect DAO or protocol governance state — proposal status, vote tallies — by reading the backing slots directly.
• Verify a deployed contract's storage layout during a Superchain audit.

Errors & troubleshooting

Common pitfalls

• Solidity storage layout is not part of the ABI, so you must know or derive the slot index for each variable before you can read it on OP Mainnet.
• Several small variables can be packed into one 32-byte slot; pull out a single field with bit-masking and shifting rather than reading the whole word as one value.
• A mapping entry does not live at its declared base slot — it sits at keccak256(abi.encode(key, baseSlot)), which you must compute before calling.
